Phuket Diving at Similan Islands & Surin Islands

Diving the Similan and Surin Islands with Phuket Scuba Club!

The best diving that Thailand has to offer:

The Similan islands is a group of 9 islands located 90 km north of Phuket. The best way to dive these awesome sites is via Liveaboard boats. These islands are declared as a National Marine Park and are open during our high season months from Mid October to the end of April. They are also rated as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.

The Liveaboard cruises range from 2 to 7 days. Your eat, sleep and dive off the boat.

With crystal clear water with visibility between 25 to 40 meters offering an abundance of coral gardens, gorgonian sea fans, swim throughs, tunnels and boulder type formations usually starting with shallow depths descending down to max 20 to 30 meters. The marine life is abundant and apart from the typical tropical reef creatures there is a good chance of seeing the bigger pelagics.

The scenery above the ocean at these dive sites are also stunningly beautiful with granite type boulder formations and white sandy beaches amongst the crystal clear turquoise sea.

Some of the popular dive sites at the Similans:

Boonsung Wreck (an old tin mine located closer to Khao Lak), Turtle Rock,West of Eden,Turtle Rock, Breakfast Bend, Elephant Head Rock, Deep Six, Christmas Point or North Point. Koh Bon and Koh Tachai situated further north of the Similans but are also part of the same national park. At Koh Bon you have a good chance of buddying up with manta rays.

Richelieu Rock (which is part of the Surin National Marine Park)
The best dive site here is Richelieu Rock. This site is a submerged pinnacle and can have strong currents. Usually the water at the surface is relatively calm. It is at this site where you have a good chance of seeing the majestic whalesharks. Although it is a great site for diving during the entire season the best time for diving at this site is between February to April. You have more chance of spotting whalesharks then. Richelieu Rock is also popular for the many tiny marine critters.
