Phuket diving at Koh Doc Mai

Koh Doc Mai meaning Flower island in Thai is located about 40 minutes east of Phuket. It is a small limestone island with between 24 to 28 meters depth.

The west side of the island is shallower than the east side going to max 18 meters depth and consists of hard corals mainly. One of the main attractions to this side of the island are 2 caves. The one cave is very small and not easy to penetrate……so this area is for experiences cave/cavern divers.

These wall dives have plenty of interesting marine life and it is not uncommon to see seahorses. Other smaller marine creatures like nudibranchs, ornate ghost pipefish etc can be spotted along the crevices of the wall. This dive site is ideal for macro photography. Sometimes bigger pelagics like leopard sharks can be seen at the bottom of the wall.

These sites can also have strong currents and visibility can be bad on certain days.

Hin Mu Sang or the Sharkpoint daytrip dive site is located about 45 minutes east of Phuket en route to Ph Phi. This dive site is made up of 3 pinnacles structured in a north to south formation. The main pinnacle is visible from the surface and we used to regularly see leopard sharks and bamboo sharks.  There is an abundance of beautiful colourful soft and hard corals and huge sea fans as well as a diversity of marine life such as eels, scorpion fish, ornate ghost pipefish, snappers, groupers, lion fish, nudibranchs etc. There is also a chance of buddying up with the odd sea horse. The depth at this site is relatively shallow with a max depth of 24 meters and can have strong currents. This site is ideal or experienced divers.
